To tame the arrogant.
2) Find some evidence online that shows that the Romans followed these suggestions (or that they did not). Copy your sources and explain.

3) What purpose did the Trojan Horse serve in the Trojan War? Please explain the story briefly. Bonus: Can you find the part in the Aeneid? Print it for extra credit.

4) The fame of Aeneas and the episodes of the Trojan war reached the shores of North Africa. The queen Dido asked Aeneas to stay a while at her court and narrate the details of the war. Find some more information about Dido (a few facts).

The Founding of Rome:

The Romans were polytheists (they believed in many gods). They feared and respected their gods, and sought to win their favors. Sacrifices to ingratiate the gods were a common occurence in Roman soceity.
Jupiter was the king of all gods, emperor of Olympus and protector of Rome. He portrays universal justice and the power of nature. He is the final judge, the god of the earth, and his weapon was the thunderbolt with which he would strike down his enemies.
You might be more familiar with his Greek name.

10) What was Venus's son's name?

Expansion of the Roman Republic
11) Who was the biggest threat to the Roman Republic?

13) Gaius Julius Caesar was born in Rome on July 13, 100 B.C. His ancestry was of noble origin. The Julian family could trace its origins to the legendary Iulius, son of the Trojan hero ____________, father of the Latin dynasty. Like many other young Roman aristocrats of the period, Caesar went to Greece to perfect his skills in oratory and his knowledge of philosophy.

From Egypt (after he ordered Ptolemy dethroned and named his younger sister Cleopatra queen), Caesar proceeded to Asia Minor and defeated King Pharnaces II in a war that lasted only days. After this swift victory, Caesar sent his famous message back to Rome: "Veni, Vidi, Vici!"
14) What does this message translate to in English?

    1. Virgil was a classical Roman poet, best known for three major work like the Eclogues
The Aeneid tells the legendary story of Aeneas, a Trojan who travelled to Italy, where he became the ancestor of the Romans.
    2. Aeneas wanted to avoid war as much as possible after settling in the land of Latium (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aeneid#War_in_Italy_.28books_7.E2.80.9312.29)
Upon returning to the land of the living, Aeneas leads the Trojans to settle in the land of Latium, where he courts Lavinia, the daughter of king Latinus.

    3. The Trojan horse was supposed to be a gift for the other side. In reality the horse was just a trick to hide the trojan men inside and they would come out when the men were drunk and asleep. At which time the men would come out and let the other trojans inside and kill the sleeping, drunk men.

Dido also founded Carthage where she became queen but killed herself when Iarbus threatened with war if she did not become his wife.
    5. Rhea was married to Mars, the Roman god of war. Rhea had twin sons. To protect the boys, she set them adrift on the river, hoping someone would find them. First they were found by a she-wolf who fed them. Then a shepherd and his wife adopted the boys. As the twins grew older, they decided they did not want to take care of sheep. They wanted to be kings. They decided to build a city on the shores of the Tiber. In a fit of rage, Romulus picked up a rock, killed his brother, and made himself king.
    6. The patricians were the upper class, the nobility and wealthy land owners.
The plebeians were the lower class. Nicknamed "plebs", the plebeians included everyone in ancient Rome (except for the nobility, the patricians) from well-to-do tradesmen all the way down to the very poor.

he was a poet from naples italy who had 3 major poems: the eclogues, the georgics, and the aeneid. Aeneid was important because they were several books that talked about a prince’s jounery from Troy to Italy and his battle with the italian prince

the purpose of trojan horse was to hide some of the greek army and at night they would attack the city of Troy and in the end the greeks won because they hid in the horse.
BONUS:The main ancient source for the story is the Aeneid of Virgil, a Latin epic poem from the time of Augustus. The event does not occur in Homer's Iliad, which ends before the fall of the city, but is referred to in the Odyssey. In the Greek tradition, the horse is called the "Wooden Horse" (Δούρειος Ἵππος, Doúreios Híppos, in the Homeric Ionic dialect).
Metaphorically a "Trojan Horse" has come to mean any trick or stratagem that causes a target to invite a foe into a securely protected bastion or space. It is also associated with "malware" computer programs presented as useful or harmless to induce the user to install and run them.
Dido a princess of Tyre in Phoenicia escaped a tyranny in her country she came to libya where she found carthage. she fell in love with Aeneas but when he left carthage for italy she committed suicide.
the legend is that they were twin brothers who were left to die after some one said they shouldnt conceived but their did anyway and a she-wolf found them and nursed them and then a shepard and his wife fostered them til they were men and they were well liked and made cities.
the patricians were upper class, like nobility or wealthy land owners and plebeians were lower class, the very poor.

Through out its History, the Roman Emperor ruled over his people with an iron fist. Rome had very strict laws, so as to maintain order. Rome, for the most part, had a stable economy that allowed people to find work with relative ease. Rome also had a very efficient education system.
    3) What purpose did the Trojan Horse serve in the Trojan War? Please explain the story briefly. Bonus: Can you find the part in the Aeneid? Print it for extra credit.
The Trojan Horse was used to conceal the Spartan troops inside so they could sneak out to take out the Trojans. The Trojan war was fought because Paris of Troy took Helen of Troy from Menelaus, the King of Sparta. The Spartans went to go get her back by building a large wooden horse, called it a peace offering between the 2 people. It turned out the horse was hollow and held the Spartan troops inside.
    4) The fame of Aeneas and the episodes of the Trojan war reached the shores of North Africa. The queen Dido asked Aeneas to stay a while at her court and narrate the details of the war. Find some more information about Dido (a few facts).

    1) Virgil, was a classical writer best known for his national epic poem, The Aeneid. He lived during the Golden Age of Latin Literature, which also featured Horace (65-8 B.C.), and Ovid (43 BC-A.D. 18) under the patronage of the Emperor Augustus and Maecenas. The Aeneid was important because it was co missioned by the emperor Augustus to glorify Rome and the Roman people by means of epic adventures of Romulus and Julian. The Aeneid is also important because it carries Rome’s destiny.

  9. 1. Who was Virgil? Why was the Aeneid important?
Virgil was a classical Roman poet, author of the Aeneid. The Aeneid was a epic poem about a hero named Aeneas who travelled to Italy where he became the ancestor of the Romans.

    2. Find some evidence online that shows that the Romans followed these suggestions (or that they did not). Copy your sources and explain.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Campaign_history_of_the_Roman_military
This Wikipedia source explains the power and force of the Roman military, mapping out the lands that the Romans acquired through many, many wars. This shows how the Romans didn’t follow the suggestion “to impose and maintain peace” because they violently dominated all of the land that expanded their empire.

    3. What purpose did the Trojan horse play in the Trojan War?
The Trojan horse was supposedly a gift that was given to the city of Troy from the Greeks, indicating that they were forfeiting and ending the war, and the Trojans wheeled it into their city as a trophy. This was a trick though, because the Greeks had hidden a select number of men inside the large horse, and at night they snuck out and opened the gates of the city, letting in the rest of the Greek army, so that they could defeat the city of Troy while they were asleep and taken by surprise.

    4. Facts about Dido:
    • was married to a man named Sychaeus and he was killed and then came to her in a dream and told her to flee the country

    • she curses the Trojans and proclaims endless hate between Carthage and the Trojans, foreshadowing the Punic Wars.

    5. What is the legend of Romulus and Remus?
Romulus and Remus were twins that had disputed over where they were going to build the city and begin their kingdom, and Remus ended up getting killed by Romulus. Romulus then built the city and named it Rome after himself. This explains why Rome is in the location it is in, and why it is called Rome.

    6. Who were the patricians? Who were the plebians?
The patricians were the upper-class, wealthy part of society, and the plebians were the lower class.
